Yes, of course. And not just any oil. The inland and mountainous areas of Alicante have produced some of the best oils in the world for thousands of years, picual olive oil.
The cultivation of olive trees in Spain was started by the Phoenicians and the Greeks, but it was in the era of the Roman Empire when the production, the trade and the consumption of olive oil reached its greatest splendour.
The extra virgin olive oil (AOVE) has become an authentic treasure of gastronomy, an essential ingredient that represents the Mediterranean diet, declared to be Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity by UNESCO, due to its taste and the benefits of olive oil have been scientifically proven.
Mediterranean character, arid soil, delicious gastronomy and open-minded people, full of rich nuances and a personality of its own. Oil made with the picual variety. It is a green coloured oil with shades of yellow, of a medium-high fruitiness in which both herbaceous and fruity aromas predominate bringing to mind green apples, nuts and dried fruit, especially almonds.
It has a bitter, pleasant and slightly spicy taste, with a high persistence on the palate.
This oil is made at the beginning of November from olive groves on dry land in the mountains at an altitude of more than 800 metres above sea level.
Our location in the heart of the Font Roja Natural Park makes us environmentally friendly, and our commitment to looking after our surroundings starts with a type of eco-friendly farming that is based on the optimum use of the natural resources, without chemicals, to protect one of the best kept natural areas of the Valencian Community.
The farm is located at an altitude of 800 m above sea level, where the winters are cold and the summers are hot, and it is 20 km away from the Mediterranean Sea, in the heart of a natural park, in the region of l’Alcoià, between Alcoy and Ibi. This protected natural space is home to a wide variety of flora and fauna, it has an extraordinarily well-preserved Mediterranean forest with holm oaks, small leaf oaks and maple trees. The animals that live in this park include wild boars, deer, Barbary sheep, wild cats and badgers… It is a real treasure in the Valencian Community, which favours the production of one of the best extra virgin olive oils.
Oil obtained from green olives and olives in veraison harvested in October. Aromatic, intense, with its distinctive spicy taste and intense notes of vegetables. It is the olive of Masía Vilaplana and we love it with passion.
We are well aware of how important our environment is and everything carried out at Masía Vilaplana is focused on looking after it and respecting it. To this end we use farming techniques that favour the land, and the Farm along with all its agricultural processes are currently being converted to be more eco-friendly and organic. It also has highly qualified professionals who have extensive experience and knowledge of the market that help revive the use of natural procedures. This is all rounded off by the exceptional location in the Font Roja Natural Park.
